Foam Appliances
I learned a lot making these. It was the first time I’d ever worked with foam for prototyping. These are true-to-size ‘kitchen appliances’ to bring CAD models into the real world.
Coin-Sorting Machine
With the help of an Arduino, this little cardboard machine separates coins by value. It would detect the coin at the top of a ramp, sending coins above 50 pence down the slope and spitting any other out the back. Here you can see the electronics fixed to the exterior:
And a more refined version in which coins above 50p were collected inside a box and coins below were returned to the user:
Colourful Downhill
Prompted to make something that a small object can ‘descend interestingly’, I created this board of markers dangling over a sheet of sloped paper. When a coin, small ball, or other object slides down the slope, it hits the pens and creates a unique piece of art.
